If you’ve ever struggled with getting faster for GAA, this will open your eyes ⬇️
Here are the 9 mistakes I made before I learned how to properly train for speed:
1. I thought the answer was just sprinting more — but I was running with poor technique and getting nowhere.
2. I never trained how to decelerate properly — and it killed my ability to turn or change direction fast.
3. I thought lifting heavy in the gym would slow me down so I avoided it.
4. I had no plan for my plyometrics work — I just did a few box jumps and hoped it helped.
5. I didn’t realise you need to be fresh to sprint properly — doing speed work the day after a hard training sessions is a waste of time.
6. I didn’t realise the real key was mixing heavy lifting for strength and lighter, explosive lifting for speed.
7. I did too much long, slow running — and it was making me slower, not sharper.
8. I never trained my groins or hamstrings properly — and I kept picking up niggles.
9. I didn’t know how to fit speed work into my week — I didn’t realise even 30 mins before training could make a huge difference.
