Sound familiar?

You're putting in the work.
The problem is that it isn't built around you.

1 You train with the club, but your individual work is mostly guesswork
You go to the gym, do sessions you see online and add extra running, but you can't see much improvement.
2 You do not know what you should be targeting most
You might say speed, but the real limitation could be strength, power, body composition, sprint mechanics, tightness or inconsistent exposure.
3 Your week changes constantly
Training nights, matches, work, soreness and niggles change, but you do the same stuff in the gym.
4 You can't prove the work is transferring to the pitch
You're training away but can't tell how how much your acceleration, top speed, power, strength or body composition has changed.
5 You are managing your body rather than developing it
Hamstring, groin, calf or hip issues keep returning, so you spend the season protecting yourself instead of playing freely.
You don't need some new gym sessions. You need someone to identify the priorities, connect the pieces and adjust the plan as your season changes.

What actually works

The 9 m/s Club Performance System

1. Assess

We test:

• Acceleration
• Top speed
• Change of direction
• Lower-body power
• Strength
• Conditioning
• Mobility
• Body composition
• Sprint mechanics
• Injury history and current training load

2. Identify

You receive a Performance Profile showing:

• Your strongest qualities
• Your main physical limitations
• How you compare with club and inter-county standards
• What may be increasing your injury risk
• Your three main priorities for the next block

3. Build

Your individual programme connects:

• Gym
• Speed
• Conditioning
• Mobility
• Recovery
• Nutrition
• Prehab
• Match-week preparation

4. Coach

You receive:

• Direct messaging
• Weekly check-ins
• Technique feedback
• Weekly programme adjustments

• Support when fixtures, fatigue or niggles change

5. Prove

You retest every six to eight weeks.

We compare your updated results against your baseline, show exactly what improved and rebuild the next phase around what you need next.

What you can expect

How your game will change.

1

You know exactly what to do each week

No more piecing together gym sessions, sprint drills, recovery and conditioning. Your complete week is planned around club training and matches.

2

You stop getting burned: faster and more explosive

Acceleration, change of direction and top speed are tested against your baseline. You see actual progress rather than relying on how a session felt.

3

You move differently: lighter and sharper on the pitch

Better body composition, movement and recovery help you feel more athletic, not simply look better in the mirror.

4

You finish games stronger and stop fading

Conditioning is developed without blindly adding more impact to already tired legs.

5

You play with greater confidence

You can take your player on, compete for the ball and go into important games knowing the work has been done properly.

The testing proves it

Two players can have the same goal and need completely different plans.

Both players were doing their own training already. Here's what changed when their S&C work was individualised.

Killian (Senior Club Footballer) SAID:

"I need to get faster."

Testing shows
  • Good relative strength
  • Poor sprint mechanics and mobiliy
  • Limited power and max-speed exposure
  • Higher body-fat level
His plan prioritises
  • Technical sprint work
  • Short maximum-speed exposures
  • Explosive power and mobility work
  • Nutrition and body composition
Killian Results
8.1% improvement in top speed in 8 weeks
20m Acceleration
3.70s 3.50s
5.4% improvement — excellent progress
Change of Direction
2.33s 2.23s
4.3% improvement — already a strength, now even better
Flying 20m
2.97s 2.73s
8.1% improvement — most impressive speed result of the block

Testing showed that speed was being restricted by body composition, mobility and sprint mechanics. The plan addressed all three rather than simply adding more sprint sessions.

What felt different on the pitch?

"Sprinting past players I never would have before."

What are you most proud of?

"Felt great in training carrying ball and running off lads and winning sprints in training."

Nicola (Senior ladies footballer) SAID:

"I need to get faster."

Testing shows
  • Good body fat levels
  • Untapped horizontal power
  • Limiting relative strength
  • Poor acceleration mechanics and slow on turn
Her plan prioritises
  • Reduced individual conditioning volume
  • Horizontal power development
  • Focus on minimum dose maximum strength wok
  • Pre-training doses of acceleration and COD
Nicola Results:
Speed, agility and top speed all significantly improved inside 6 weeks
20m Acceleration
4.47s 4.18s
0.29s improvement (~6–7%)
Change of Direction
3.70s 3.23s
0.47s improvement — possibly the most important result of the block
Flying 20m
3.80s 3.67s
Good improvement — top speed continuing to move forward

Speed was identified as the biggest weakness in Testing 1. It is no longer a weakness.

Wins from this week

"Week on week I notice my agility and sharpness off the mark has improved."

Wins from this week

"Continuing to feel light on my feet and sharp. Having confidence to take my player on now too."

THIS IS WHY EVERY PLAYER STARTS WITH TESTING. Both players wantED speed. Giving them the same speed programme would be poor coaching.

HARD WORK ISN'T enough.
KNOWING WHAT TO WORK ON IS.

Most ambitious players already train hard. The difference is knowing exactly what is holding you back, building your training around it and proving every improvement through testing.

Kevin O'Brien Kevin O'Brien playing

Kevin O'Brien

Over the last decade, I've looked at GAA performance from three different angles: as a player, a journalist and now as a strength & conditioning coach.

One thing became obvious. The players who consistently improve aren't just training harder. They know exactly what needs improving, they build their training around it and they measure whether it's working. That's the philosophy behind the 9 m/s Club.

Today, I coach club and county players online across Ireland, work as S&C coach with the Tullamore senior footballers, and have coached alongside experienced  coaches including Stephen Rochford. I've also worked with players progressing into professional environments, including Cillian Bourke before his move to AFL side Essendon.

Alongside coaching, I host the Humans of Gaelic podcast, where I sit down with elite players and coaches to explore the habits, decisions and performance principles behind success in Gaelic games.

The guarantee

Train with confidence

Complete your agreed sessions, check-ins and retesting. If none of the performance markers we identified as priorities have improved after your first full eight-week block, I will coach your next block free.

Your priorities are agreed from your baseline testing. They may include speed, power, strength, body composition, movement or conditioning, depending on what your performance actually needs.

The only risk is 7 days finding out if this works for you.

Common questions

Answered honestly.

Will this fit around my team training?
Yes — that's the whole point. Your programme is built around your team training week, not on top of it. When your schedule changes, the plan adjusts. You're not expected to add sessions to an already full week.
I've tried programmes before and they didn't work.
Most programmes are static — you get a plan and follow it regardless of the stage of your season. This one changes with you. It's built for your position, goals, and injury history. Testing at the start means we know exactly what needs work. Re-testing every 6–8 weeks means you can see what's actually changed.
How much time does this take each week?
That depends on your week. The programme is built around how much time you actually have. Most players do 2–4 sessions per week outside of club training. If things get tight, the programme adjusts.
I'm a club player — is this only for county level?
Most of the 200+ players on the programme are club-level. The principles are the same regardless of level. If anything, club players typically have more room to improve because proper S&C training is far less common at that level.
What if I have an injury or I'm coming back from one?
Injury history is part of the intake process from day one. If something flares up during the programme, the plan adjusts around it. I have loads of great rehab and prehab sessions I can give you for the most common injuries and niggles.
Is this just a plan I could get online?
No. A plan you find online doesn't know your schedule, your injury history, your position, or your current fitness levels. It doesn't re-test every 6–8 weeks or adjust when your week changes. The value is the structure, the ongoing adjustments, and the accountability.
What's the difference between weekly and monthly?
The programme is identical. Monthly billing works out slightly cheaper — roughly €17 per week less. Both start with a 7-day free trial and both can be cancelled any time.
What happens after the free trial?
Your card isn't charged until after the 7-day trial ends. During the trial you'll complete your testing and receive your programme. If at any point in that first week you decide it's not for you — cancel with one message. No charge, no awkward calls.
